A public page for every document we publish: which file it is exactly, where it is deposited, and which sources anyone can re-check. Whoever receives the document can compare it with the registered edition and see whether the files match.

What it is for

A document travelling by email or sitting on a website does not carry the proof that it is what it says it is. A verification page gives every published edition a stable address that states exactly which file it is, where it is deposited, and which sources anybody can re-check.

How the comparison works

The file being checked never reaches us: the comparison happens in the browser of whoever runs it. Somebody who receives one of our documents can check whether the file in their hands is the registered edition without sending anything to anybody.

What it states, and what it does not

It says which file this is and since when it has existed in that form. It does not say the content is correct, and the distinction is written on the page rather than left to a generous reading. Earlier editions stay reachable at their own addresses: a record that disappears when a new version arrives is not a record.

How it can be checked

It runs on every document we publish, and each one has its page. It is not a demo.
